What's a good brand of guitar?

I'm looking to get into playing the guitar (I somewhat play the bass now) and my mom has an acoustic that she's letting me use, but I would like to play in a thrash metal band and acoustic doesn't cut it. So basically I'm looking for a good electric guitar brand for a beginner that could last a long time and need very low repair cost. Basically my cap is around $1,000. So let me have it.

well there is no "best guitar", especially within a $1000 range. A few to look at: jackson, ESP, PRS (though I doubt they have anything cheap), Gibson and perhaps Ibanez. What it all comes down to is preference. Oh, and EMG pickups .

Jackson - Mostly are pieces of shit. Too light, and crappily put together. However, if you really look, you can find some nice ones.

Ibanez - High quality, but extremely low tone is you are looking for higher tones.

ESP - like a cross between shecter and jackson. Quality metal guitars.

BC Rich - A few nice ones, but most are doofy pieces of shit.

Fender - Masterpiece guitars, but an aquired taste since most have only 21 frets and arent standard "metal" guitars.

Shecter - Mostly ibanez ripoffs, but more expensive

PRS - great guitars, but extremely expensive

Gibson - really really expensive, with lots of laquer on its neck. once you break it in, they are good. very heavy though.

Very well put.

I wouldn't call Fenders masterpieces. Maybe back in the day, now they are at par with walmart guitars :p. I heard that the guy who founded Fender didn't even know how to play guitar?

i would say that ive had good luck with ibanez. ive played several of their basses from top o the line to sub brands and they all play very well, and i have a vintage ibanez guitar (from the 80s sometime) and it still holds up.

schecter makes a nice guitar for a very reasonable price as compared to quality. never played one but my guitarist holds them in high acclaim.

esp does pretty well but i dont know about their lower models.

i would not get a bc rich or a fender. even though they are 2 of the most popular. they arent so good. too much of a mass produced vibe to them. not enbough care for quality. ive seen fender stuff explode for no reason after only a few months. and bc rich doesnt care about anything but their top models.

jackson is a metal standard but i think they tend to be pricey.

play all of the bolt ons. they are too light and they feel like they are going to break apart in your hands. fender guitars have a warm feeling to them. sure, if you get the cheap kind they are going to be shit, but the good american strats are the best guitars on the market. for cheaper guitars, ibanez GAX series are excellent guitars. ill even go as far to say that they sound better than any jackson i've ever heard. with jackson, you have to change everything to make it sound good, a guitar should sound good if you just plug it into a clean amp. with jackson, you need to change the pickups to "emg's" to make them sound good. honestly, i never could tell the difference between emg's and regular humbuckers.

Youre nuts, every Jackson i've ever heard played in the store sounds pretty damn good, and they arent modified or anything... The lightness is a big plus with them, dont worry about breaking it because you wont break it if you dont do anything stupid with it. The necks are fucking sweet too... and i really disagree with the Strat statement, most Strats arent really that good, occasionally there are some pretty good ones but i still dont really like them much. Well whatever, each to their own...

I still think ESPs are definately the best guitars out there, Jackson and Gibson being the next best.

oh well, i always liked to do something different. the jacksons sound was always standard metal. with a fender, it has a more twangy sound and you can do more with it. and how can anyone say that a guitar company sold out? also, all of the jackson lovers should be kissing fenders ass because when jackson went bankrupt fender bought the company and continued making them. it was either fender or dave mustaine. and he is great with business!

Probably Fender, I think Dave prefers ESP's.

I don't think I've ever played any guitar on the face of the planet and felt that I was going to break it. I'm sorry but that has never been an issue for me. Christ Crash, what the hell do you do when you play? Do you freaking stomp on the damn thing?

Dude I was thinking the same thing. Now, I've only owned one guitar in my life (some piece of shit no name brand, I don't care to talk about it), but I've played quite a few of them, either at other peoples houses or at Guitar shops, and I have never played a guitar that I felt would break in my hands (except for my old guitar, probably because it was a piece of shit). Jackson Guitars fucking rule though, they're a lot of fun to play, although I will side with Crash and say that SOME Fender Guitars are not too bad, the one I used to play in my Punk Rock band was a piece of shit though (it was designed by Kurt Cobain and it was light blue, looking like something Blink 182 would've used...I fucking hated it...)

That would be the Jag Stang. And what did you expect Sin, it was designed by Cobain?

Yeah, it was pretty awful. The guy who owned it was a huge Nirvana fan, he spent a lot of money on it and he couldn't even fucking play the thing (seriously, I tried to teach him how to play even power chords and he couldn't, the kid had no talent at all).

nah, i don't stomp on my guitars. thats why i like my strats to be in supreme order condition. sure, on stage i jump and run around like fuck, but my guitars get supreme condition. now adays when you think fender you think of indy rock. when i think of fender i think 2 things, tom morello and iron maiden. fender guitars are amazing because you can do any sound with them, with jacksons and ibanez (even though i love ibanez) the clean on them sounds like shit if you play fast on them at all. but then again, jacksons are guitars made for metal players, fenders are made for all around guitar players.

anyway...I have a LTD and it's probably the best one this far for me(i have had about 16 guitars) maybe its just me but I think that you can't say"THIS IS THE BEST GUITAR GOT DAMNIT!!!" because we all think different maybe someone think that the neck is nice and some dont...so that's why I think its so silly to say that that guitar feels better than the other. Anyway I lke LTD guitars they are very nice to play on, it give's you the metal sound.
I think that you should get a LTD zapatista. I dont know how much 1000 is sweden though, but ask around
