| Metal Introspective: Ryukin by About2Crash 01-21-2010, 03:11 PM
Welcome to the Metal Introspective. Throughout time man has ventured onward, braving great risks and overcoming the worst of odds. Though the journey is long and fierce, the glory and valor is worth every tug of effort. To conquer new ground we must look back and see the ruinous waste left behind, the roads journeyed and the lands of old once roamed. Today we take a look at the blast beatin' butterfly: Ryukin ![]() Real name? Ryan Alexander Bloom Where are you from and how old are you? I am 24 years old and I am from the USA generally speaking. I was born in Maryand but I have no memory of that. I have also lived in Dumbfries, VA; Overland Park, KS; Slidell, LA; Aurora, Denver, Boulder, Crested Butte and Colorado Springs, CO; and I will probably be moving again to a new state late this summer TBD. Ambitions? to be an Olympic pole vaulter. to not live in the gutter. to eat every day. to not waste my entire life.... just some of it. Turn ons? my wife, metal, being right about anything at any time, opportunities to beat the system Turn offs? people on power trips, ridiculous inefficiency or incompetence, corporate america, things that are not metal, hippies and vegans and all that lot, lies and surprises How Long Have you been into metal? about roughly in the approximate range of an estimated 8-11 years depending on what is considered metal and to whom. How Long have you been at MRU? after checking my profile on here, it looks like 4 years and 5 months. i was also on the ancestral metalforums from about 2003 ish until its demise. Favorite bands? right now its looking like nile, behemoth, vader, opeth, between the buried and me, mastodon, and bloodbath or something like it. Favorite albums? this is hard but i really like mastodon - blood mountain, behemoth - the apostasy, opeth - ghost reveries, sepultura - arise/beneath the remains, slayer - reign in blood/south of heaven. etc.... Favorite songs? this is way too hard. any song with amazing drumming, a good catchy but blistering riff, vocals that arent too annoying, a distinct bass line, a good guitar solo, the classic stuff. Least favorite bands? talking heads, beastie boys, hurt, devo, u2, anything that can be considered a boy band or a pop diva or emo/hardcore or jazz after about 1950. i dislike as much or more stuff than i actually like. What do you do for a living? at this current moment i sell ecco shoes (the danish brand NOT ecko or echo), i teach driving skills for a company called masterdrive, and i coach pole vault for a local high school. those who can: do. those who cant: teach. those who cant teach: teach gym. i think i am only 1/2 step above gym class at this point. Who would you want to kick in the nuts and why? a lot of the people i would like to kick in the nuts are women so imagine that they had nuts to kick: a few of my former or current managers/chefs/supervisors/bosses, national television advertising execs, the president of colorado college, sarah palin and all of her supporters, the guys that robbed my grandparents, you know... people that suck. Being one of the only successful people here, tell us a bit about your run with Havok Will you ever try and go for the big time again? unless you just mean particularly 'music industry' successful, then i dont really rank higher than anyone else. in which case success in the music industry is a double edged sword. i mean i got to play with some huge acts, i had people i never met asking me for autographs, i have had my drumming complimented in writing by people on at least 4 continents and my album played on the radio and reviewed in metal hammer. ive even had my lyrics comically misinterpreted by people thousands of miles away. BUT, aside from the 30 minutes a night on stage playing the actual drums, it wasnt fun or exciting or lucrative. i lost a lot of money, spent a lot of time being bored, angry, or otherwise wasting my life, and dealt with a lot of unnecessary bullshit from lot of people who really didnt give a damn about me or my music for that matter. i did a lot of hard work and i guess i wasnt greedy or manipulative enough to get my share of the rewards. ![]() would i try again? yes. but only if the right opportunity presents itself. ive been approached by some notable acts in the last several months (the largest of which is on metal blade), but nothing has materialized yet. my band right now is called mordheim and there is a thread about it already. Mordheim this is probably not the project to go all the way, but its fun and its making me work on a slightly different side of drumming than straight thrash. Conclusion Metal-R.Us RULESSSSSZSZZZ!!!!!!!!!11!!!111one exclamation point *metal horns* as is apparent in the recent MRU battles, my taste in metal is almost completely incompatible with all but a few members of this forum, but i keep coming back because i dont have to listen to your favorite bands to know that you all understand the greater truth that metal is better than not metal. and at some level we will see the world from the same metal perspective. Who will be next for the Metal Introspective? Who will it be? Nobody knows... til next time!!! This thread is a Q&A for Ryukin. Any questions should be put in bold. |

| Dear Ryukin How do you manage to memorize every Invader Zim quote ever written? Sincerely, Doomey Doom |

Oh, the symphonic shriek of the thousand hiding voices, the cry of the Need inside, the entity, the silent watcher, the cold quiet thing, the one that laughs, the Moondancer. The me that was not-me, the thing that mocked and laughed and came calling with its hunger. With the Need. And the Need was very strong now, very careful cold coiled creeping crackly cocked and ready, very strong, very much ready now. http://finiteanarchy.deviantart.com | |

| sherry: repetition is the key to memorization. i have watched that show far too many times for my mental health. stach: i am from about 2 generations beyond you, so of course our tastes will not line up on every band. amok: i think i was on the road for somewhere in the vicinity of 4 months spread over 2 years. not a really grueling schedule by some standards. and ja, heel ja. Да, очень Да. yes, very yes my wife is super glad that i am not in havok any more. doc: i went to stanley elementary (across the street from blue valley high) from 1993-1995. i remember driving on metcalf road a lot with my parents. |

| I suppose repetition works. Oh and fyi, I've got something to send you. I know I was suppose to send you some mail before christmas but I kept forgetting or forgetting to bring it when I'd pass the post office. But I have it and I've still got your address in the mail so I'll get that out soon. |
