"If you learn how to rule one single man's soul, you can get the rest of mankind. It's the soul, not whips or swords or fire or guns. Thats why the Caesars, the Attilas, the Napoleons were fools and did not last. We will. The soul is that which cannot be ruled. It must be broken. Drive a wedge in, get your fingers on it and the man is yours. You won't need a whip - he'll bring it to you and ask to be whipped." http://finiteanarchy.deviantart.com | |

I am betting the semi negative reception it has gotten is due to the severe graphic nature of the movie. They probably feel it gets in the way of the story and the overall theme. It has always been said that you want to give the audience the idea rather than show them what's going on. The ideas we think in our head can often be worse then the actual shots in the movie. It looks intriguing and if I get the chance I will see it. Although, I will probably be among the one's who agrees with what I stated above. Evil and darkness does not have to be graphic and bloody.. It is about mood and character.

ya, i always go back to takishi mikas audition as an example of that idea that what you think is worse that what a film maker can show you, but i still enjoy these kind of controversial movies if only to see what all the fuss is about.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came and the grasshopper died and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

I've been waiting to see that movie! It's basically this: If you turn the garden of Eden upside down in terms of the spiritual aspect--whatever is good becomes bad, whatever is positive becomes negative, it's basically what you get with something that is the opposite of Christ. And it pounds the point home in graphic ways. I believe there is a shot at the end where the chick's fufu gets cut out with a rusty weapon. I love violent art house films that make you feel sick afterwards. Basically a man and a woman are making love in the beginning and their kid falls off the balcony and dies. Trying to cope with the loss, tney go to the cabin and try to repair what is left. Then all spiritual hell breaks loose. The director is an ignorant prick but he has made another tremendous film called Breaking the Waves. What a depressing movie. I thought about it long after it was over.

I want to see it in the cinema, especially since here they are showing the uncensored version. But probably I'll wait till the DVD release - I don't have time for cinema right now. Von Trier's movies are usually a hit or miss - some are really moving whilst some others (usually those mostly publicized) didn't get to me otherwise than through the external, shocking content. My fav Von Trier's work still remains the TV mini-series "The Kingdom", with its intense eerie atmosphere, my second fav TV series after Twin Peaks.

Looks like there's gonna be a game based on this movie: Eden, as the game will be called, will be a first-person thriller/adventure game that invites players to confront their fears. Willem Dafoe will reportedly reprise his role in voice-over, though the game will not replicate the film, picking up afterward instead. (Not having seen Antichrist, I can't surmise what that means for Dafoe's performance.) Iversen says the experience will be "strong and very personal," "controversial" and that it "...must be your own personal hell - a bit like a nightmare version of 'Mystere'." First one to help I.D. exactly what 'Mystere' he means there (the Cirque de Soleil show? seems weird) gets a no-prize. Iversen evidently was interviewed on Danish radio this week; if you heard that broadcast and have more details, let us know.
