Local Bands

Any local bands that you think deserve recognition?

Here are a few good ones from the Maryland/DC region...

Final Redemption-Straight up death metal, but not boring at all. (Listen to "Aberrancy")

Xanthos-Really good Folkish Blak/Melodic Death Metal. Apparently my friend is buddies with the dudes in the band. Also they are great live, I saw them when they opened for Finntroll. (Listen to "Relenquished Faith")

Audio Terror Regime-This band is associated with the whole hardcore scene around here. There is something about them that I love though, they are so original. Their drummer is insane, he's got the biggest drumset I've ever seen with like 30 cymbals haha. They are also great live, they have a video show that they play along with. Plus their guitarist owns a recording studio so the production on their recordings is superb. (Listen to "Odds Against")

(If you actually decide to check any of these bands out, I put the best song they have up on myspace in parenthesis )

MySpace.com - Cyclonus - AU - Death Metal / Experimental / Grindcore - www.myspace.com/cyclonusband

Sweet, undescribable, solo project. The guy Cale did everything. Listen to Akuma.

MySpace.com - Who is Scott Barclay? - Guitarist Needed! - Adelaide, AU - Progressive / Alternative / Death Metal - www.myspace.com/whoisscottbarclay

Killer Cynic style progressive tech death but a more down tempo mood based approach. These guys are my mates and I loved jamming with them. The band has since split up.

By the way I really liked Xanthos. They have a really epic sound and pretty good production. Sounds a lot like Dark Tranquillity.

And I liked Unhallowed except for the vocals. We have way too many bands with that style of singing in Adelaide.

Wolves in the Throne Room.

MySpace.com - Wolves in the Throne Room - OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON - Metal / Black Metal / Folk - www.myspace.com/wolvesinthethroneroom

I've come to like their sound more and more. The members are still douches, but the music is nice.

PS. The douchebox that played Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace will play Snake Eyes in the GI Joe Movie. Still in pre-production.
Garbage Day!
