| Metal Manifesto, feat. Sinister Sinister, January 30th, Manifesto Hoorn
One of my all time favorite death metal songs is Sinister's Sadistic Intent. That rolling bass, the blunt vocals and sharp guitars make me happy. I noticed I wasn't the only one happy to see Aad & Co. again, just didn't know who would go what way. I bought tickets for me and Tom, but the day before the show Tom called to say this wouldn't be possible. The tickets weren't exactly expensive, but this one wasn't easy to sell too. I got a call from Marit asking whether I would like to drive, I wouldn't but she offered to pick me up. Thank you. I asked if she wanted to buy my spare ticket, but nowadays you have to pay Manifesto if you reserve tickets? So... coming to Hoorn, in blistering snow, frozen roads all along trying to sell a € 9 ticket in the cold... yeah right. I was lucky, within four visitors I could get inside and warm myself with the beer.
First band on stage was Obsidian. I had seen the band before in 2007, wasn't really impressed then but this was OK. The musicians were OK, but as a band it's still too Meshuggah for me. The clean vocals annoy the living shit out of me, the brutal part was pretty nice. But, being a cocky Amsterdammer as grunter did not improve my mood. Next please.
Second band on the bill was Ceremony of Opposites. I thought I knew the sound engineer (Joey) but he stayed away from the equipment, turned out he had been replaced. If you ask me, the band can hire Joey again because the sound was horrible when they begun. Later on the guitars got some more prominent in the mix and the singer got audible, but that was halfway in the set. But when the sound was good, the singer seemed to have lost his wits a bit, as the singing became a bit shallow. Enthusiast band, yes, performance and sound could be better. Not the best show I have seen of them.
The third band was a surprise to me. I have missed The Monolith Deathcult on several occasions (Groningen, Elsrock, maybe even Waldrock) but this was GOODD!! The band play a mixture of Kataklysm-speed and Morbid Angel-technique with a Karl Sanders grunt (especially in the Black Seeds of Vengeance coverversion of course) and Gorefest look! I have not seen the entire set, but it was pretty good.
When Daniel (X5452) announced this Sinister tour, he probably did not know at what time the band would actually start. Turns out, Daniel, along with Daan and Mikert, had to leave early for the train... they missed Sinister! The band opened up with a new song, soon to be released (missed the title) then my favorite Sadistic Intent and it rocked! Only point of criticism I had was an older man, wearing a leather coat, wanting to hug everybody in the pit. He nearly choked me, and I wasn't the only one he did that to. Wtf?? I moved a bit to the side because of him, just to stay able to watch the show. Sinister played without a set list and many songs from their best albums Cross the Styx and Afterburner. I ordered it afterwards, the interpretations of these songs KICKED ASS! You can notice the band has been around for quite some time, this was tight, loud and clear!
Ron drove us home, Marit totally exhausted because it had been a while ago she'd been headbanging...
Daniel, Daan, Mike, we go to Purmerend by car, right? |
